Virgin Atlantic returns to Mumbai

Virgin Atlantic is relaunching flights between London Heathrow and Mumbai.

The service will begin on October 27th 2019, with flights going on sale from May 28th. The new service will complement the airline’s long-established route between London and Delhi.

The daily service will develop a link between India’s commercial centre and the UK’s capital. It will also provide connections between India and the US, via London. The new services will depart and arrive at Heathrow in the morning to align with connections to and from America.

These flights will be operated by Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, offering customers the airline’s award-winning Upper Class, Premium and Economy Light, Classic and Delight cabins. Each cabin has a full on-board service with complimentary food, drink and more than 300 hours of entertainment across films, TV and music channels.

“2019 marks a significant period of growth for Virgin Atlantic and I’m delighted that we’re continuing to expand our route network once more, by returning to Mumbai,” Juha Jarvinen, executive vice president of commercial at Virgin Atlantic, said. “Until recently we’ve been able to serve this important market through our partnership with Jet Airways, however, since Jet Airways has sadly suspended its operation indefinitely, we now have an opportunity to provide alternative options for our customers and meet this demand.

“Combined with our long-standing route to Delhi, we’re able to provide travellers even more opportunity to experience our award winning service between the UK and India. Not only are we providing an increased offering to the thriving Indian market, but together with our partners at Delta, we can offer unrivalled choice and more seamless connections to the USA via Heathrow Airport.”

The new Mumbai flights are Virgin Atlantic’s 27th daily service from London Heathrow and its third new route announcement this year. Other routes that have been announced are: London to Tel Aviv, which will commence in September 2019, and London to São Paulo, which will start in 2020 and will be the airline’s first venture into South America.
